There are lots of dates to remember, so I thought I'd start this column with some of those dates.

The Veterans Memorial happenings including the Sons of the American Legion Breakfast to be held Sunday, February 27 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  I've been to these breakfasts in the past.  The food is great, you can eat quickly and get to Sunday and/or church on time, and the proceeds go to a great cause...so, what's not to like?

There will also be a Chili Cook-off on March 5th.  Chili will be judged and prizes will be awarded.  Both of these events are open to the public.

There will also be a St. Patrick's Dinner at the Veterans Memorial Building on March 13.  I'm not sure what they are having or what the price is, but if you've ever had any food made by the Auxiliary, you know it will be good!

Showcase 2011 will be presented by the Port Allegany Music Department on March 11 and 12 at the school.  I've had a sneak preview...I know it will be good...it always is!  Good luck to the performers and  directors as curtain time draws near.

The next event I'm telling you about is not going to happen for a few weeks, but you won't want to miss it.  The folks at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church are sponsoring a soup supper on March 26.  The soup suppers make for an excellent meal at a good price.

I've heard that the benefit for Carolyn Hawver held Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Building.  Thanks to everyone who donated and participated.  It's wonderful the ways people in our community band together to help someone in need.

I've had several people nominated for Unsung Heroes recently!  Thanks to everyone for your input.  We honor people on a monthly basis.  Keep your nominations coming in.  Don't forget the nominee's name, address, phone number and the reason they are being nominated.
