...Small talk and commentary by Port Allegany's own Pam Fischer

8/18/11

Congratulations to Hannah Wise...Miss McKean County Fair Queen.  Hannah was crowned Monday night at the Fair.  She'll do a wonderful job at the State Fair pageant.

Fall sports practices have begun.  I've made the rounds trying to get pre-season shots for the upcoming sports tab.  What a nice bunch of kids...what a dedicated group of coaches...it's been hectic trying to fit everything in, but I sure enjoy taking these photos.

Mike and I traveled to Lemoyne, PA last weekend to visit with my good friend, Luann and to attend the wedding reception of my Goddaughter, Erin and her new husband, Bob.  It's sometimes hard to go to events when you only know a few people, but we had a great time.  Bob's family is great!  It seems as though we've always known them.  My Godchild is a lucky woman...and Bob is a lucky man to have her.

Don't forget about the Choir Festival this weekend.  The music will be great and so will the performances by Nancy Borowski Recker and Bob Stromberg.  It promises to be a wonderful weekend of entertainment.

Wednesday morning, I went to the last Kids Club meeting of the summer at the S. W. Smith Memorial Public Library.  Children's Librarian, Karen Strait, sure does a nice job with these summer reading programs.  Their end-of-reading club party will be held tonight.  Congratulations to all the kids who completed the program and read at least 10 books this summer.

I've got a date for your calendar...Football Senior Day will be held September 24th.

While we're talking about upcoming dates - don't forget Broadway on the Allegheny shows taking place September 16th in Coudersport and September 23rd in Port Allegany.  Also coming up in September is the Library Dinner Auction.  It's time to start looking for donations for the auction.  Look around your house and see what you can find, or put together a package of your favorite things, or offer your talents...there are many ways to help out!  The dinner auction benefits the operating expenses for the library.  If you were around the library this summer, you saw all the activity going on with the summer reading program, the Story Hour program, and all the kids reporting on their books.  The library gets a lot more use than you can imagine.  Whatever we can do to help with the operating expenses and the building of the new library will be money put to good use.

If you get a chance, stop by the Citizens and Northern Bank to see the display of Star Hose Fire Co. memorabilia.  The local fire department was organized 125 years ago and the display recognizes the services and dedication of the members of the fire department.  It's worth your time to stop by and check out this wonderful display.

See you around town!  -  PAM
